Institutions
The Ontario Consortium for Image-guided Therapy and Surgery (OCITS) is based at the University Health Network, Sunnybrook and Womens College Health Sciences Center, Hospital for Sick Children, The John P. Robarts Research Institute, London Regional Cancer Center, Kingston Regional Cancer Center and Queens University.
This unique linkage of academic institutions and private sector partners has as its mission to develop new image guidance technologies for therapy and surgery applications in urology, oncology, neurosurgery and orthopedics.
These institutions have committed to invest $16M into this consortium over the next 5 years, approximately 33.3% of the total costs and expenditures incurred on the OCITS project. This commitment of $16M has been matched by private sector contributions.
With this combined committment from both the public and private sectors, we anticipate that OCITS will become the scientific, clinical and market leaders in the rapidly expanding use of new image-guided therapies.
Private Sector
The private sector companies listed below have committed to a $16M total investment (over 5 years) to the development of "Image-Guided Therapy and Surgery" as OCITS' industrial partners. This close collaboration between private sector partners and public sector institutions will aid in the discovery and development of key intellectual property, train and retain scientists and engineers and establish a collaborative network to develop opportunities for commercialization in Ontario.
Ontario Government
The research institutions (UHN, SWCHSC, QU, RRI, HSC, LRCC, KRCC) have been granted $16M by The Ontario Research and Development Challenge Fund (ORDCF) in support of the Ontario Consortium for Image-Guided Therapy and Surgery (OCITS).
The ORDCF Program promotes research excellence and partnerships between business and research institutions, its objectives are to:
- Support job creation and economic growth
- Promote world-class research of interest to the private sector
- Encourage more collaboration between the private sector and research institutions
- Improve Ontarios ability to attract and keep world-class researchers and skilled technicians and conduct state-of-the-art research
- Help Ontario universities and other research institutes compete for funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation
With the financial assistance from ORDCF, OCITS will develop and test novel image-guided technologies, new intellectual property in image-guided therapy and surgery, and provide multidisciplinary training opportunities for highly qualified personnel.
